DAF Trucks is a truck manufacturing company based in The Netherlands. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of PACCAR Inc., an American Fortune 500 company and one of world’s leading manufacturers of light, medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, as well as advanced diesel engines.
DAF began in 1928 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, as a modest construction workshop. The company specialized in the installation of petrol and diesel engines until 1957, when the first DAF-branded engines were produced.
In 1973, DAF broke ground with its turbo-intercooling technology. The innovation allowed for greater output at lower fuel consumption, while also reducing carbon emissions. DAF refined and optimised this technology throughout the 1980s, eventually introducing ATi, or Advanced Turbo Intercooling, further improving engine efficiency.
Since 2005, all DAF trucks have been fitted with the PACCAR MX engine. The newest versions—the MX-13 and MX-11—“feature extremely efficient down speeded engines, intelligent drive lines and efficient rear axles that result in high torque being available at impressively low engine speeds for unmatched fuel efficiency and the highest driver comfort,” according to DAF.
DAF offers six truck models in two separate categories: Euro 6 and Euro 3/5. Each truck features specs suited to specific transport and distribution applications. The company also offers used trucks, components and a range of services including repair and maintenance, financial and road side assistance.
