Hidromek is one of Turkey’s leading manufacturers of construction equipment. Its product line includes backhoe loaders, wheel excavators, crawler excavators, special purpose excavators, wheel loaders and motor graders. It was founded in Ankara in 1978.
Hidromek began as a small shop that mounted backhoe and loader attachments onto farm tractors. It produced its first construction machine, the HMK 80 backhoe loader, in 1989. Two years later it introduced the world’s first four wheel drive and four wheel steer backhoe loader.
The HMK 220 LC crawler excavator was produced in 2002, and the HMK 200 W wheeled excavator was produced in 2003. Since then Hidromek has continued to expand and innovate at a rapid pace, releasing new series and generations every few years.
The Maestro series backhoe loader was launched in 2008 and won the Superior Design Award the same year.
In 2011 Hidromek unveiled its GEN series excavators, receiving the Good Design 2011 Award. The following year the GEN series won the IF Product Design Award.
The company introduced the SUPRA series backhoe loader in 2013 and the ALPHA series backhoe loader in 2014.
Two Hidromek excavators—the HMK 145 LC SR and the HMK 60 CR—won the Red Dot Award 2018. The same models won the IF Product Design Award in 2019.
Hidromek machines are used in over 100 countries on five continents.
According to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which sold its motor grader business to Hidromek in 2014, Hidromek “holds the top market share of backhoe loaders and hydraulic shovels in the Turkish market. The company has four local production bases and a global network of sales agents in 35 countries. Net sales in 2012 were close to US$342 million. The company employs a workforce of roughly 1,400 people.”
