About Kobelco Construction Machinery

Kobelco Construction Machinery is a Japanese developer and manufacturer of construction equipment, with a focus on excavators and cranes. It currently has headquarters in both Tokyo and Hiroshima.

With its origins tracing back to 1930, Kobelco has witnessed steady growth and expansion over the years. Today it has leading subsidiary companies in China, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and the Netherlands.

Kobelco produces a wide and versatile range of excavators and cranes. Its available products vary by region, with some machines specific to certain markets. The company’s European website lists over 40 different excavator models in four categories: conventional, demolition and recycling, mini, and SR Series.

In Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Russia and Taiwan, Kobelco offers 17 different crane models. A further 10 models are available in Europe (3), North America (3) and China (4).

In 1963, Yutani Heavy Industries, one of Kobelco’s two predecessor companies, manufactured Japan’s first wheeled hydraulic excavator. Four years later, Yutani built its first crawler hydraulic excavator using Kobelco’s technology. In 1979 the Kobalco brand name was officially adopted and trademarked.

Yutani, working with Kobe Steel, Ltd., continued to produce excavators and cranes throughout the 80s and 90s. Finally, in 1999, the Construction Machinery Division of Kobe Steel merged with Yutani and Kobe Steel Kobelco Construction Machinery Co., Ltd., resulting in the formation of Kobelco Construction Machinery Co., Ltd.

Kobelco defines its philosophy by eight principles: simple, speed, open, communication, challenge, passion, unique and innovation.
