About Volvo Construction Equipment
Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is a Sweden-based multi-national company that develops, manufactures and distributes construction equipment. A subsidiary of the Volvo Group, Volvo CE has a broad product range that includes excavators, articulated trucks, wheel loaders, skid steer loaders, track loaders, demolition equipment, asphalt pavers, soil compactors and forestry equipment.
The company describes itself as “a leading international manufacturer of premium construction equipment, and with over 14,000 employees we are one of the largest companies in the industry. Our wide range of products and services are offered in more than 140 countries through our global distribution network.”
Volvo entered the construction industry back in 1906, when it manufactured a steam-powered road roller. It built its first wheel loader in 1954, and followed it up in 1966 with the world’s first series manufactured articulated hauler. By 1985 the company was operating in North America. In 1991 it added excavators to its line of products.
This century has seen Volvo CE design a new range of backhoe loaders, begin production of skid steer loaders, introduce the EC700B excavator (a 70-ton class machine) and produce the world’s first full-suspension articulated hauler.
Volvo CE has factories, offices, customer centers and museums in Sweden, France, Belgium, Germany, England, Brazil, the United States, India, South Korea and China.
The company has made sustainability one of the main pillars of its brand.
“Caring for the environment and playing an active, responsible role in society have always been important to us,” Volvo CE states on its website. “We firmly believe that for a sustainability initiative to be meaningful, it must be environmentally and socially beneficial as well as economically viable.”
It adds: “To us, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is all about minimizing the environmental impact of our operations, working to develop energy- and fuel-efficient products and being responsible members of our society.”
