Electrovaya, a Canadian battery solutions provider for materials handling vehicles, has released details of a new contract with Walmart Canada. In an update to its forklift truck battery systems, the retail giant will convert all the forklifts at two of its distribution centres to Electrovaya’s drop-in lithium ion battery systems.
Per Electrovaya, the contract is worth about CAD 7.3 million (USD 5.54 million).
Electrovaya has partnered with Walmart in the past. Last year the retailer fitted all of its forklift trucks at an Ontario distribution centre with Electrovaya batteries. With the fulfillment of the latest purchase orders, three of Walmart Canada’s distribution warehouses will have a materials handling vehicles fleet that is exclusively powered by Electrovaya lithium ion battery systems.
Needless to say, Dr. Raj Das Gupta, Vice President, Business Development at Electrovaya, was happy with the new contract.

It is ideally suited to intensive-use applications such as forklifts, supporting both higher efficiency and sustainability.”
Walmart Canada lauded Electrovaya for its green solutions. John Bayliss, Executive Vice President, Logistics at Walmart Canada, said:

Electrovaya was established in 1996 as a research and development company with a concentration on lithium ion technologies and manufacturing processes. “Electrovaya is focused on contributing to the prevention of climate change through supplying the safest and longest lasting Li-Ion batteries in the marketplace,” the company states on its website. “Our goal is to be a global leader in the supply of advanced lithium ion battery technologies.”
