John Deere has announced what it is referring to as a unique-to-the-industry six-way Power Angle Tilt (PAT) blade onto its 950K dozer with its production classification. Those in attendance at ConExpo 2017 were able to see the 950K/PAT combination. It is planned to be launched in Fall, 2017.
As John Deere’s crawler dozers product marketing manager, said, “Our customers were asking for a machine that does both heavy excavating and fine grading work. With the addition of the PAT blade, along with the Deere SmartGrade 3D grade control system and a hydrostatic powertrain, we’re able to do just that.”
The blade which, according to Hortsman, can be run in a manual setting, it is the SmartGrade set up boosts the attributes of the PAT blade.
The 950K is motored by a Tier 4 Final John Deere, 265-horsepower engine, 90 litre size, and utilizes a hydrostatic powertrain. Deere says that as opposed to a typical powertrain that is a torque converter type, the 950K will get 15% more torque to the ground.
In addition, this dual-path hydrostatic transmission allows a driver to turn while pushing a full load without any material loss as would happen when utilizing a typical torque-converter transmission.
Both low ground and standard pressure set ups are available for the 950K.
By utilization of a hydraulic power-pitch, which is an option, the PAT pitch blade can be operator controlled from the cab, with a return-to-pitch setting that allows the driver to utilize preset blade-pitch positions, makig them active with the push of a button. Three mount areas on the blade can also be used to change the pitch of the blade.
A grade control system can be added and calibrated because of electro-hydraulic controls that come standard. John Deere continues to support its open architecture plan, which affords operators the ability to pick control set up based on their preferred grade either from Leica, Trimble, or Topcon. According to Deere the SmartGrade system will soon be attainable on their dozer, including a 3D-MC2 grade control set up, factory installed.
Transmission and engine speed are automatically change on in the Eco mode which is found throughout its the K Series line of dozers. This attribute can lower the usage of fuel by as high as 20%, Deere has indicated.
