Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is teaming up with Discovery Channel to benefit nonprofit organizations chosen by the public. Throughout the 10th season of its “Gold Rush” program, Discovery Channel will promote what they’ve dubbed “The Give Big Giveaway”: proceeds from the sale of a special “Gold Rush” edition of Volvo’s new EC200E crawler excavator will go directly to charity.
The “Gold Rush” excavator comes complete with a pricey gold paint job, custom molded pads and an embroidered, autographed seat, according to Construction Equipment Guide.
Per Volvo, the machine’s cab has premium leather seats with suspension, memory settings, a dampener and two lumbar support settings. As for the paint job, the company says it took four professional painters with 125 years of combined experience 140 hours to complete. 2.5 gallons of gold paint were used, plus 1.5 gallons of solvent, 1.5 gallons of Lumicoat clear, 0.5 gallons of hardener and 0.5 gallons of reducer. Volvo estimates the paint job’s value at $5-7K USD.
“Volvo CE wants to support groups that build and modify homes for families who need assistance, so they can have a safe home and a better tomorrow,” explained Dave Foster, vice president, marketing and communications, Volvo Construction Equipment Americas. “The volunteers at these organizations give their time and talents, outside of their daily jobs, because they are committed to helping others have one of the most basic human needs: a safe, comfortable place to live.”
Viewers of the 10th season of “Gold Rush” will have the option to vote for one of two nonprofits: Building Homes for Heroes and Habitat for Humanity. The share of the proceeds received by each group will be proportionate to the amount of votes they get.
The Gold Rush excavator will be auctioned off at Richie Bros. Auctioneers in February 2020.
