Sime Darby Industrial (SD Industrial), one of the world’s largest dealers of Caterpillar (Cat) products, has announced it believes it will secure 15% of the 20-tonne sized class excavator segment in Malaysia.
“We target to sell about 150 newly launched Caterpillar excavators, namely the Cat 320 GC and Cat 320, by the financial year ending June 30, 2019,” SD Industrial’s Teoh Cy Kuan said. “We believe there is a healthy demand for this 20-tonne sized class excavator which is mainly used in the construction, quarry, mining and plantation industries.”
SD Industrial will be offering two of Cat’s three newest models: the Cat 320 GC and Cat 320. The Malaysian-based company has so far received seven pre-orders for the 20-tonne excavators.
“Our customers are mostly impressed with the vehicle’s safety features,” Teoh explained. “The new 320 GC and 320 excavators also come equipped with innovative technology that will increase productivity. The system’s added e-fence feature enables the machine to work safely without moving outside operator-defined set points.”
The excavators feature integrated Cat Connect Technology, improving operating efficiency by 45% over traditional grading operations.
Moreover, the excavators—which can be operated by both semi-skilled and unskilled operators—consume 20% less fuel, in addition to costing 15% less to maintain.
SD Industrial currently has 2,800 Cat vehicles registered on its connected asset monitoring system and plans to increase that number to 3,600 by the end of this year. Its goal is to sell 450 to 500 units of new Cat machinery vehicles by FY19.
Cat’s broad range of globally-demanded construction vehicles includes articulated trucks, asphalt pavers, backhoe loaders, off highway trucks, skid steer loaders, cold planers, compactors, track type tractors, excavators and motor graders.
