In an attempt to increase its overall annual production, Misson Sand & Gravel has invested in a new Volvo L120H loading shovel and 25-tonne EC250E excavator.
“This is the first time we looked at owning a Volvo excavator and we were quite encouraged when took a Volvo EC220 on demonstration,” according to Christine Crowley, representing Misson.
“The machine’s economical fuel consumption was a significant improvement on what we were currently operating and we were impressed with the smooth control and the overall balance and appearance of the machine,” she observed.
“We’ve always operated Volvo loading shovels due to their reliability and productivity,” Rowley added. She runs the business along with her husband Martin and sons Carl and Craig.
Misson Sand & Gravel currently operates in three locations, including a new facility at nearby Finningley as well as their Misson and Austerfield extraction sites. Given the anticipated growtth in production levels, the company decided to increase its earthmoving machinery fleet with the two new Volvo acquisitions.
Powered by a Stage IV Final Volvo eight-litre engine (216hp), the EC250E excavator has great digging depth at just over 7m and significant reach forward at 10.1m. The EC250E is equipped with a 6m boom and 2.97m dipper arm. The lift delivering capacity is 3.5 tonnes at maximum reach.
The all-round visibility is enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14-vent climate-control system. It is notable that The Volvo Care Cab on the excavator offers plenty of legroom and foot space with an overall spacious interior.
Another notable feature on the EC250E is an adjustable, easy-to-read LCD colour monitor which supplies real-time information on a wide variety of work tool settings, machine functions, key diagnostic information and a wide variety of work tool settings. The monitor also doubles as a screen for the rear-view camera.
The L120H wheel loader is being employed to load and blend stockpiled material into a processing plant. The machine is equipped with an eight-litre, Stage IV-compliant, 258hp engine.
Volvo provides designed and manufactured driveline components that offer significant fuel savings. In addition, one of the key benefits of the engine is a maximum torque of 1,250Nm is delivered at 1,300 rev/min. This results in optimum efficiency of operation as well as low fuel consumption.
Both the EC250E and L120H models are fitted with CareTrack as standard, and Volvo’s telematics system that provides remote monitoring of a wide range of machine functions, e.g., location, fuel consumption, service reminders, etc. The machines have also been supplied with Volvo’s Blue service agreement, using genuine OEM parts, ensuring each unit is serviced at the correct intervals by Volvo-trained engineers.
